The Lockwood family association had been searching for years for the origin of John Lockwood who had emigrated to the US from England in the mid-17th century. They had narrowed his origin down to two areas one in Yorkshire and one in Suffolk but they could not tell from the records which was correct. They tried everything including making several trips from the US to these two different locations, searching parish records and even gravestones. Working closely with the family, Oxford Ancestors solved the mystery quite quickly by taking DNA samples from five men in both Yorkshire and in Suffolk. A three-way comparison of including the American branch showed at once that while the Yorkshire samples were very different to the US the Suffolk samples were identical. The mystery was solved. Ancestor John had come from Suffolk.
